What Is the Rug Room
A dedicated facility for rugs that deserve more than an in-home clean.

FMost area rugs — especially hand-knotted, wool, silk, and heirloom pieces — benefit from a cleaning environment that an in-home visit can't fully provide. Temperature control, controlled drying, proper wash pits, and the ability to work with the rug flat and fully accessible make a genuine difference in the quality and safety of the clean.
Carpet Tech's Collin County Rug Room is a dedicated facility at our McKinney location specifically designed for area rug cleaning. Every rug brought in is assessed individually — fiber type, dye stability, construction, and condition — before a cleaning method is selected. Nothing is cleaned by default. Everything is cleaned by design.
What in-facility cleaning allows that in-home cleaning doesn't:
- Controlled water temperature and pressure matched to the specific fiber
- Full immersion washing where appropriate
- Flat, accessible drying that prevents distortion
- Deeper cleaning of heavily soiled pieces without moisture risk to surrounding flooring
- Fringe finishing and restoration as part of the process
Rug Types We Clean
The rug determines the method — not the other way around.
Wall-to-wall carpet and area rugs are not cleaned the same way, and area rugs are not all cleaned the same way as each other. An Oriental rug hand-knotted with vegetable dyes requires a fundamentally different approach than a machine-made synthetic area rug. Wool tolerates water differently than silk. A flatweave cleans differently than a pile rug.
Applying a single cleaning method to every rug regardless of construction is the most common mistake in rug cleaning — and the most common cause of dye bleeding, fiber damage, distortion, and shrinkage that customers blame on "professional cleaning" when it was actually the wrong method applied to the wrong rug.
At the Rug Room, we identify the fiber, test dye stability, assess the construction, and select the appropriate method before any water or chemistry touches the piece.
